On a beautiful (if hot!)
San Diego Labor Day afternoon,
sixty-one (61) guests celebrated
Phil's graduation from San Diego State
University!

A diverse group of friends
collected at my house at the edge of the
Pacific Plate on Labor Day. My
brother-in-law, Greg, brought over an 8-foot
awning and a big box fan for the living room.
Monte Murbach (and the San Diego Association
of Geologists) supplied a 12-foot awning, so
the deck had ample shade as the afternoon
wore on. Janet (my valuable assistant)
brought TV trays, and assisted immeasurably
with setting up, putting the food out onto
the dining room table, and being the general
floor director. Diana and Lowell Lindsay
brought extra hot dogs to the party, which
were much appreciated, as were the seedless
watermelon slices provided by Pam and
Butch.
The most important thing
that everyone brought was their companionship
and support, which in fact, kept me going
through the life stages that continue to
ensue.
A number of people
commented on what an eclectic gathering it
was, and how much fun it was to visit with
such diverse, pleasant folks. I can add
nothing to that observation. Thanks for
making it a VERY special day for me!

A hearty thank you to all who
helped me celebrate on Labor Day afternoon. There
was (and still is/are) beer, wine, and soft drinks.
I underestimated the quantity of Wisconsin
bratwurst, but I still have one tri-tip, lots of
cheese, some chips, and various veggies. Alas, my
infamous butterscotch brownies never got baked
because I frankly didn't care to fire up the oven.
A special thanks to Monte Murbach for cooking the
tri-tip "just so."
